What is Cultural Coaching?

You can think of cultural coaching as advanced English classes—I work with clients on improving their communication skills so that they can achieve their personal and professional goals. This can take many forms, and I usually focus on some of the topics below.

If one of these areas is something you’re struggling with, contact me! I can help.

Job Applications

Navigating the American job market can be exhausting!

Whether you are hoping to work in the same field or are trying to start a new career, I can help with every step of the process–assessing your skills and determining potential career paths, writing and polishing your resume, filling out job applications, and practicing for the job interview. We will find a place for you to thrive!

Career Coaching

You’ve got the job–now how do you succeed in your new role?

Many people who have the skills required for a job still struggle to succeed because of cultural issues. If you haven’t seen the success you are hoping for, whether that is promotions you’ve missed, or simply job satisfaction that you aren’t feeling, let’s work together to see what the missing pieces of the puzzle are for you.

Social Life

Living in a new country can be confusing and lonely, and it’s hard to make friends who don’t share your background and life experiences.

It’s okay to feel lonely, but you don’t have to be lonely forever! Your goals might be dating, making new friends, or simply connecting better with the people you already know. We can build the social skills you need to be part of a community.

Education

The American education system is incredibly confusing. I’ve worked in public, private, and charter schools, and I’ve helped students succeed on college applications, standardized tests, and in their classes at kindergarten through college.

I can tutor you in specific subjects, and I will work with you and your teachers to determine the best way for you to learn. No matter what you’re trying to learn, I can help you figure out the most effective path.

Communication

Your goal when communicating shouldn’t be to speak perfect English, or to make no mistakes. Good communication is effective communication–if the person you’re speaking to understands what you’re saying, you have achieved your goal!

Even native speakers don’t use “perfect” English, and the language itself is constantly changing and evolving. This makes English hard to learn, but effective communication is much easier than you think!

Family Dynamics

When families move to a new area, major changes can happen in their family dynamics. You might have started to argue with your family members more, or notice that you don’t feel as close as you used to.

Maybe you’re concerned that your children are losing their cultural identity, or that they aren’t adapting to American life as well as you’d hope. I can work with you and your family to help you communicate better and connect with each other again.
